Tim Tebow Performing Circumcisions For The Lord!

Who is this guy? Well most people know him as Heisman Trophy winning quarterback for the Flordia Gators football team.

Well Tim Tebow is not only a poor man’s Vince Young but he is also not your typical big time athlete. Instead of spending spring break in Cancun or some Florida beach with a Matt Leinart beer bong, he went to the Philippines for missions trip.

While most of us might think he went there to dig a well or some other type of manual labor, Tim actually took advantage of the fact that the Phillippines is obviously more liberal in who gets to practice medicine. So Tebow actually transformed into Dr. Tebow and assisted in a number of medical procedures, including a few circumcisions. Are you kidding me? Who has the nerve to just show up and be like, “yeah I think I would feel comfortable performing some circumcisions even though I have no medical training or experience doing so.” Well my hat is off to you Tim, and if I had a Heisman vote it would be for you.

(here is Tim in action)

  1. Over 95% of the world’s Christians follow the New Testament’s clear instruction not to circumcise. For Catholics it is expressly forbidden. Somehow, Catholics in the US and Philippines didn’t get the memo.

The Holy Roman Church “…strictly orders all who glory in the name of Christian, not to practise circumcision either before or after baptism, since whether or not they place their hope in it, it cannot possibly be observed without loss of eternal salvation.”

From Cantate Domino, re-affiirmed by Pope Pius XII in 1952

  2. “it cannot possibly be observed without loss of eternal salvation.”

    – That’s loco.

  3. Mark I would love to see a verse that in anyway implies those who have been circumcised are eternally damned.

  4. rymk: Gal 5 2: “If you are circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.”
Since you asked. (Not that I believe it myself, but far too many Christians think circumcision has something to do with Christianity. For more, including more recent Catholic condemnation, see http://www.circumstitions.com/Xy.html)

matt: What’s loco is cutting off parts of babies’ genitals with no medical indication. Even more loco is letting an amateur do it.

  5. Are you kidding me? As a registered nurse, who is utterly against circumcision, btw, (but that’s beside the point), I can not fathom how any lay person without formal training can assist in any surgical procedure!
I realize not all countries are as stringent about laws and procedures as the US, but a football player being allowed to assist a surgeon??? Man, I might let him apply an ace bandage on a sprained ankle or something but I’d go without any procedure before allowing a football player to operate on me.
Maybe his next trip he can perform open heart surgery or something. After all, Tim CAN do anything…

  6. The Philippines has only 5% of the doctors (per capita) that the US has. No wonder visiting athletes sit in on procedures.

Most of the circumcision in the Philippines is not “for the lord” as the article suggests, since the Catholic majority there is defying the church by circumcising.

However, also of note, much of the “circumcision” in the Philippines is actually supercision, a slit that amputates nothing, but allows the glans to be exposed by letting the skin drape.

  7. this is the strangest story i’ve ever heard.

  8. Hugh7: thanks for the verse, I did ask. Although Paul is clearly talking about the Judaizers and their absolutist ideas of carrying on the Law for salvation.

Ron: The “article” or this blog post was meant to be playful and interesting nothing more. When I used the words “for the Lord” I was referring to the fact that Tebow was on a Christian missions trip.

Janice: You are right a football player performing medical procedures is not something I would really advise. Given the context and situation though I do think it makes a little more sense. Especially considering the fact that we allow clergy in this country to perform this same procedure of circumcision…

  9. Dammit dammit dammit, I had to be out of town during the awesomest thread EVAH!

  10. I think Tebow SHOULD do the surgery…that doctor is nowhere near the patient’s unit.

  11. And why are people so against circumcision? It is nothing more than a manicure…for your _____…that lasts a lifetime.

  12. I am sad that you were out of town Adam. The whole time I wrote this I was gleefully anticipating the crazy comments you would come up with.
